Wheelhouse is a spin dance studio‍‍‍ located in Centretown and Westboro. This is not your typical spin class. Each class consists of 11 tracks, which usually consist of rap and pop, and lasts for 50 minutes. Every track has a different beat and you ride to the beat of the music. Add in choreography which involves triceps dips and push-ups on the handle bars, plus a “weight track” which includes high repetition upper body weight training, and you’ve got yourself a full body workout. This workout was probably one of the most intense I have had in a long time. As a first timer it is really hard to follow all the movements and understand the instructor. You need to look around the class and follow other peoples tempo and actions which can be hard and a little intimidating. I would recommend maybe trying it for the first time with some friends if you are a little timid. This not only targets your cardio and legs but also your core and upper body. Overall I would recommend this workout. The drop in price is 22$ and monthly rates are available.

Movati offers Anti-gravity yoga, for those who don't know, it is doing yoga while suspended from silk hammocks. Not only are you meditating upside down but you are also taught how to do flips and tricks. I personally do not like yoga but this class is completely different. It is fun and makes you feel like a kid again. I would not say that it is a hard or intense workout but it is something new to try. I do recommend that you do not eat a few hours before trying this class. You spend most of the time upside down and can get very nauseous, especially the first time you try it. If you have not tried this yet I really sugge‍‍‍st giving it a go. The instructors are really great and take the time to help you. If you do not have a Movati membership your first visit is free!

Reform is a Pilates studio located in Westboro. Each class is 25 minutes and you have the option of picking upper body and core or lower body and core workouts. The unique aspect of this studio is that your entire workout is done on a Lagree Megaformer M3k+. This workout targets muscles that you do not engage often. It is also low impact and would be great for someone who is coming back from an injury. The workout is short but the positions are definitely hard to execute on the machine when you are new to it. I would not say you will leave the studio huffing and puffing or covered in sweat but you will feel your muscles burning and shaking. The price is a little expensive for what you get. It's 25$ for your first 2 classes (one upper and one lower body) with a pair of socks. However after that it is 20$ per 25 minute class or memberships and packages are available

SPINCO is a spin dance studio located downtown on Slater street. This is the same concept as Wheelhouse, you ride to the beat of the music and the class is 50 minutes long. I feel that SPINCO is better for beginners, the instructor at the beginning of the class explains the movements for new riders and the classes are a little smaller in size. This makes for a less intimidating first time. The instructor for my class was Jodie, she was very welcoming and great to motivate you to push a little harder. Like Wheelhouse, every instructor has different playlist and choreography. It will also take a few classes to get the hang of things. This class was a little easier for me since I have already done classes at Wheelhouse in the past but give yourself about 5-10 classes to really get into it. One class is $20 with towel and shoe rental included. Monthly memberships and packages are available.
